Making a Difference
We at Imagination Theater believe very strongly in using interactive theater to address social issues, educate communities, and improve quality of life. We were recently reminded in a very real way about why we do what we do. Jeremy Schaefer, one of our ensemble members, was recently performing our holiday show (Winter’s Tales) when he asked a young girl in the audience to join him on stage to help act out part of the story. The girl stood before the audience with two other children and laughed and giggled and laughed as Jeremy lead them through their roles. A teacher at the school approached Jeremy after the performance in excited astonishment. She explained that this young girl had been adopted from China four years ago and had been mute for the entire four years. This teacher said when Jeremy picked this little girl she almost stopped her from going on stage for fear of the young student being traumatized. Instead, the girl chose that moment to drop all of her barriers and really, truly express herself for the first time in years. We experience these stories on a regular basis—helping participants of all ages to make huge leaps of personal growth…that often affect them for the rest of our lives.
We believe so much in our mission that we strive to make our programs available to all schools and all kids—regardless of their ability to pay. That is why we work with individual “Partners” and corporate and foundation sponsors to keep our prices as low as possible, and in some cases offer our programs free of charge.
Imagination Theater is reliant on the generosity of friends like
you to generate funds for more than 25% of total annual income.
Without that generous support we would not be able to teach 90,000 students each year about conflict resolution, positive life choices, and safety on the internet. Without that support we would not have been able to teach 8,000 students how to distinguish between a safe touch and an unsafe touch, and help them understand what they need to do if they ever get the “uh-oh” feeling. Without that support we would not have brightened the lives of 1600 senior care residents with our interactive musical performances.
And here is the best part of all…
